GUWAHATI: Stepping up its subversive activities, the banned ULFA on early Saturday morning blew off a pipeline joining group gathering stations (GGS) at Rudrasagar oil field belonging to ONGC in Sibsagar district.
There is no loss of any human lives and the spillage of the crude oil is reported to be minimum.
The blast has established the presence of ULFA militants, nearly two weeks after Bhutan launched its offensive against the militants inside its country and after the Army chief General N C Vij claimed that the back of militants has been broken by the Bhutan offensive.
Army intelligence sources said that this was the first of a series of activities the outfit would try ahead of the Republic Day.
Meanwhile, the ONGC has stepped up its internal security in all its locations following the incident.
Sibsagar district superintendent of police Deepak Kumar said that the militants planted an improvised electronic device on the overhead pipeline, which blew off the pipeline at around 1 am.
A crater about two and half diameter has been created and about 100 meter of wire has been recovered from near the spot at Konwarpur village.
